Hyperuricemia is a common occurrence in patients with chronic heart failure and uric acid (UA) levels are in parallel with NYHA functional classifications. Increased UA levels are associated with decreased vasodilatation and decreased peripheral blood flow in patients with heart failure. This effect may be enhanced by xanthine oxidase (XO).
