The invasion and metastasis of tumors is a random and complicated multi-stage process. Among them, metalloproteinases promote the infiltration of cancer cells into the surrounding tissues by degradation of the matrix, and transfer to and from distant vessels through the vessels. How to control or eliminate the ability of tumor cells to invade and metastasize is an ideal goal for treatment. At present, people’s understanding and application of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) may provide new tools for cancer treatment. This article will provide a systematic review of the relationship between TIMPs and their relationship with tumor invasion and metastasis.
