歇后语是一种文学性较强的民间俗语,它具有独特的结构形式。根据其前后两部分的关系,歇后语可分为喻意的和谐音的两类。《红楼梦》中歇后语的运用非常巧妙,切时切境,对刻画人物性格、推动情节发展,揭示客观规律等都有独特的作用。之所以能够取得这样的效果,就是因为歇后语的创造方法具有文学的现实主义和浪漫主义手法,自然歇后语也就成了一些作家在表现生活时所喜欢采用的手段。
