在美国高血压严重威胁着人们健康,作者认为90%以上的病人是由于心理的或中枢神经对紧张的反应,对原发性高血压患者进行血压遥测,可观察到在1~2小时内血压达40~60mmHg的变化。受试者血压升高是与悬念、沮丧、紧迫感等消极情绪状态有关,即患者对紧张的心理反应。通过病人生理学电子监护进行心血管训练,是临床生物反馈一个很好的发展方向。健康人及高血压患者有意识地控制心率和血压已经证明是有效的。作者用一个廉价的电子血压计来显示血压值,并建议用它作自身监视和在家庭进行生物反馈训练。由于使用压力带受到固有的机械限制,而准确度大致为5mmHg,即使具有自动压力控制,经常反复测量仍然是困难
