Carbon dioxide (CO 2) is an important part of Earth’s atmosphere and is an indispensable gas of life. Plants need CO_2 for photosynthesis, and CO_2 is emitted from gases exhaled by humans and animals. As a by-product of the combustion of petroleum and other fuels, CO_2 is emitted by both industrial and vehicular emissions. For scientists, the role of CO 2 in climate change is already very clear. However, the way and timing of CO 2 accumulation and diffusion in the atmosphere throughout the year remains to be further studied. Three research centers, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Langley Research Center, are developing instruments to study the issue of carbon dioxide concentration and dispersion in space. The project in the future or will develop a satellite called ”Night, Day and Seasonal."
