前言菊花在我国各省均有栽培,並且品种亦很多,但从药书的記載和实际应用上,供药用的菊花只有安徽省滁州出产的綠蒂菊(亦称滁州菊);亳州出产的白菊(亦称亳州菊);浙江省出产的白杭菊和黃杭菊;河南省出产的濮菊;山东省嘉祥县出产的白菊(亦称花子)等。这些供药用的菊花当中,以滁州菊和亳州菊質量为最好。但山东嘉祥县出产的白菊,据当地农民談:是远在二百年前时,从安徽省亳州(即今亳县)传来的,由于当地的气候土質特适于这种菊花的生長,因之这种菊花在山东嘉祥县开的花格外的白,气味格外的香,采收陰干后不需硫黄燻制,即異常潔白,而在临床应用上,与安徽亳州所产白菊不分上下。
