Since the Leftist Cultural Force headed by Lu Xun and the Communist Party smashed the anti-revolution attacks by the reactionaries in the 1930’s,revolutionary music traditions had been formed with Nie Er and Xian Xinghai as representatives.Their music inherited the fine traditions of the“New Music”since the May Fourth Movement,and developed itself by learning from the experience of foreign progressive music.Today,we commemorate the anniversary of the People’s Musician Xian Xinghai’s 100th Birthday with a view to inherit and develop the fine traditions of the revolutionary music and strive for the construction of the socialist music culture with Chinese characteristics.This is,in my opinion,the very significance of today’s commemorative ceremony.
