禹縣屬伏牛山系的山区,西北南三面皆为羣山环繞,总面積为2,236,933亩,其中耕地1,331,622畝,占总面積的59.52％,全縣有136,000多戶,663,000多口人,男女整半劳力280,000多个。山崗区面積为1,244,596畝,占总面積的55.63％,其中耕地有482,124畝,占山崗面積38.2％,有林80,906畝,占6.6％。现有荒山523,355畝,有人221,976口人,占总人口33.3％,男女整半劳力103,547个,占总劳力的30.7％。
