郑州天然商厦是郑州六大商厦之一.1995年1月20日因二楼针织品商场电火花引发火灾,波及三、四楼,付之一炬.经河南省建筑科研院对火灾损伤的测试评估,各类构件平均烧伤深度10.8mm～32.3mm,判定平均烧伤深度为20～30mm,超过烧伤层深度的混凝土,其强度仍可发挥作用.因此,建议充分利用现存结构进行加固,商厦业主采纳了这个建议,委托机械部第六设计研究院设计,加固设计的要点是一楼的板、柱采用加筋,现浇混凝土,加固梁采用粘钢,二、三楼板、柱采用加钢筋,现浇混凝土,梁采用加钢筋喷射混凝土;四楼柱,用喷射混凝土加固.
