我县位于喀喇昆仑山北麓,塔克拉玛干大沙漠西南缘,叶尔羌河上游。全县人口四十一万,耕地一百二十六万亩,共有十六个农村人民公社,四百四十七个大队,二千四百另八个生产队、一个镇,两个林场,一个园艺场,一个蚕种场。这里气候干旱,风沙活动频凡,盐渍化土壤普遍分布,严重障碍农业生产的发展。解放时,全县粮食总产只有八千万斤,旧社会贫下中农的生活民不聊生,到处是哀鸿遍野的凄惨景象。
My county is located in the northern foot of the Karakorum Mountains, southwestern Taklimakan Desert, Upper Yarkant River. The county has a population of 410,000 and arable land of 1,260,000 mu. There are altogether 16 commune of rural people, 447 brigades, 2,478 other production teams, one town and two forest farms. A horticultural field, a silkworm farm. Here arid climates, frequent sandstorm activities, salinized soils are widespread and seriously impede the development of agricultural production. At the time of liberation, the total output of food in the county was only 80 million kilograms. The living standards of the poor and middle peasants in the old society were not boring. There were miserable scenes of devastation everywhere.
