人文学科与自然科学对于传统持有不同的立场，这取决于这两大学科之性质的殊异。从创造活动看，在自然科学中后人对前人的工作是一种“兼并”；在人文学科中后人对前人的工作是一种“兼容”。从文本形式来看，在自然科学中主客体构成一种认知联系，主体对对象的实在作出“证明”；在人文学科中主客体构成一种价值联系，主体对对象的价值作出“评判”。从阐释方法来看，自然科学对于世界的阐释是一种“说明”；人文学科对于世界的阐释是一种“理解”。因此在人文学科之中，文学传统具有永久的意义，其传播过程表现出内敛性和凝缩性，而文学阐释总是置身于历史过程之中，与文学传统保持密切的联系。这与科学传统在自然科学中的意义迥异其趣。但人文学科与自然科学在总体上是互补相融的，这两大学科必须携手并进、共谋发展，而文学传统也只有在此时才能真正得到发扬光大。
The humanities and natural sciences hold different traditions, depending on the nature of the two major subjects. The process of its communication shows introversion and contractibility. Literary interpretation is always exposed to the historical process and closely linked with the literary tradition. This is very different from the meaning of scientific tradition in the natural sciences. However, the humanities and the natural sciences are generally complementary and complementary. Both these two major disciplines must work hand in hand with each other and seek common development. Literary tradition can only really flourish at this time.
