邮电部邮政运输局大连水运分局1987年7月1日正式成立,同日起大连至广州海上邮路正式开通。这是继大连至烟台自办海上邮路之后,又开通的一条大连至广州的水上邮路。邮电部还决定,“七五”期间除了继续增加邮船,还要加快大连、上海邮运码头建设步伐,在依靠铁路运输为主的同时,要努力发展铁路货运集装箱、汽车和水上运输,逐步建设好全国综合邮政运输网,从而缓解对铁路的压力,加快邮件传递速度,以适应邮政通信发展
