在当今学术界,像季羡林先生这样一位集语言学家、历史学家、东方学家、宗教学家、翻译家、作家……于一身,精通英语、德语、梵语、吠陀语、巴利语,还能阅读俄文、法文专业书,并且还是世界上少数几个通晓吐火罗文的学者之一的大学者,可谓是硕果仅存的国宝级大师,就是这样一位被中国乃至国际学术界尊称为“一代宗师”的老人,在我的心目中却是那样的慈祥、随和与宽厚,每每有幸坐在先生朗润园的寓所内听老人娓娓说着一些有关学问或日常闲话,总能在受益的同时感受到一种无拘无束的自然与随意,丝毫感觉不到面对一位学贯中西的大学者的拘谨和不安,这也许就是季先生巨大的人格魅力吧。
In today’s academic circles, like Ji Xianlin, a linguist, historian, orientalist, religious scholar, translator, writer, etc., proficient in English, German, Sanskrit, Vedas, and Ba Li Yu, who can read professional books in Russian and French, and is also one of the few scholars in the world who are familiar with one of the spit-out Romance scholars, can be described as the only remaining national treasure master, that is, such an academic by China and even the world. The old man who is known as a “great master” by the community is, in my mind, so kind, accommodating and generous. Everyone has the privilege of sitting in the home of Mr. Long Runyuan and listening to the elderly and talking about some knowledge or daily gossip. We can feel the unrestrained nature and freedom at the same time benefiting, and at the same time, we can't feel the restraint and uneasiness of a person who has studied Chinese and Western universities. This may be Mr. Ji’s huge personality charm.
