According to the British Computer News reported in September 65, at Hursely in the United Kingdom, IBM lab engineers added a new 44 machine to the 360 system. It’s a scientific computer, comparable in speed and performance to the larger and expensive computers of the past, with the IBM 7094’s performance but at a fraction of the price. The Model 44 is the first of the 360 systems to use a disk storage drive in a central processing unit.
