The current in a long pipe has a corrosive effect on the pipe, thus shortening the service life of the pipe. One of the causes of this current is the change of the geomagnetic field, which is in the upper atmosphere of the earth. Knowing the general characteristics of the field source, you can predict when piping occurs, where it can easily occur, and make long-term predictions of corrosion. The spectral characteristics of the field sources, the distribution of earth conductivity, and the corrosion-frequency dependence limit the period range that affects the natural geomagnetic field changes of the pipeline. In high latitudes and equatorial regions, it is necessary to estimate the corrosive effects of current induced by the geomagnetic field source on the pipeline. In mid-latitudes, the peak times of these natural currents must be avoided in order to accurately monitor the pipeline-ground potential.
