作者1982~1986年在青海省海北高寒草甸生态系统定位站对天然垂穗披碱草(Elymus nutans)种群的生长节律、生物量季节和年度动态,以及主要生态因子与垂穗披碱草生长发育的关系进行的研究表明,该种群地上各器官的生物量从返青到完熟一直处于不断增长的过程,9月初达极大值,9月中旬开始减少。种群地上净生物量以生育第三年最高,生长速率以拔节后期至开花期最大,作为青干草或青贮利用以乳熟期(8月中旬)刈割为宜。该草对水热条件要求不高,适于在高寒地区栽培。
