我国“科学”号科考船,近日在西太平洋雅浦海沟附近海域投放热流探针,以获取海底热流信息。科研人员将其比喻为给海底“量体温”。热流项目作业组负责人宋永东介绍说,“量体温”所使用的“体温计”是一根7.5米长、自重965千克的热流探针。从“科学”号后甲板处由钢缆放入海底后,凭借额外增加的500千克配重,这支“体温计”可以竖直插入洋壳表层,也就是亿万年来形成的海底沉积层中。
