钴在海洋性气体层下的受蚀速度十分缓慢。在美国北卡罗来纳屈雷海滨距岸80英尺和800英尺处进行暴露试验所得腐蚀率均为年均0.1～0.2密尔。用钴作镀层材料可能比用镍腐蚀得快,腐蚀产物形成带有红色锈迹的表面。比较钴与铬,钴镍与铬,镍与铬相结合形成的复合镀层,不难看出各镀层对处于海洋性气体层下的钢构件具有大致相当的保护作用。
The corrosion of cobalt under the oceanic gas layer is very slow. The exposure rates at 80 and 800 feet off the coast of Quyrey, North Carolina, USA, were all exposed to an average of 0.1 to 0.2 mils per year. Using cobalt as the coating material may corrode faster than nickel and the corrosion products form a surface with red rust. Comparison of cobalt and chromium, cobalt and nickel and chromium, nickel and chromium combined to form a composite coating, it is not difficult to see that the coating on the marine gas layer under the steel components have roughly the same protection.
