This paper presents a method for the quantitative separation of yttrium and other rare earth elements by petroleum sulfoxide - ammonium thiocyanate extraction chromatography. Some chromatographic parameters were chosen to determine the separation factor of yttrium from other rare earth elements. Silanized silica spheres coated with petroleum sulfoxide are loaded into a column (550 mm x 14.7 mm) and the yttrium in the sample is eluted with 0.6 M ammonium thiocyanate at 16-40 ° C prior to titration with EDTA. The three synthetic samples (including Y 2 O 34.8% -65%) and four actual samples (Y 2 O 3 36.03-65.68%) were analyzed with relative standard deviations of 0.07-0.98%.
