Different countries in the world have different health systems and their emphasis on primary health care varies. There are also significant differences in the level of health, usually measured by statistics of mortality and morbidity. This article mainly explores the following questions: whether countries that focus on primary health care will bring better health to their citizens than countries that focus on specialized medical services. This cross-country comparison only selected 10 western industrial countries. The health level of a country’s public is affected by the socio-economic development.
