Objective To evaluate whether occupational exposure to anticancer drugs among medical staff leads to an increase in the micronucleus rate of peripheral blood lymphocytes. METHODS: The literature on occupational exposure to anticancer drug and lymphocyte micronuclei from 2000 to 2017 was retrieved and Meta-method was used to provide post-exposure genotoxic effect values. Results A total of 10 papers were included in the study. The micronucleus rate of the 8 exposed groups was higher than that of the control group. The overall Meta-estimator SMD was 1.18 ‰ [95% CI: 0.66 ‰ ~ 1.71 ‰]. Conclusion Occupational exposure to trace anticancer drugs may cause harmful genotoxic damage and the micronucleus rate of peripheral blood lymphocytes can be used to monitor the biological effects of occupational exposure to anticancer drugs.
