This paper describes a three-dimensional finite element numerical model of both fractured and soft layers with a dip angle of 90 ° or 60 ° and a varying magnitude and direction of forces. Special emphasis is placed on the influence of the intermediate principal stress σ_2 on the maximum shear stress at the fault tip, and the effect of the presence or absence of the soft layer on the overall stress state and deformation characteristics is also noticed. The numerical results are very similar to the existing indoor and outdoor experimental results, which can be used to explore the stress distribution and changes of complex geological bodies under different boundary conditions, so as to evaluate the geologic conditions of earthquakes and provide the medium term earthquake prediction clue.
