After launching the brand“E-Surfing Fly Young” on March 1, China Telecom held the ceremony of launching iPhone 4S in Shanghai on March 8. The following day is featured with the official start of selling China Telecom’s iPhone 4S, which gave more choices to Chinese consumers, especially young people loving Apple products.
It is known that the cheapest package of China Telecom’s iPhone 4S is 49 yuan per month, lower than China Unicom’s 66-yuan package. In the launching ceremony, China Telecom announced that the reservation of China Telecom’s iPhone 4S has hit 200 thousand units in a few days, of which the consumers in Shanghai reserved 20 thousand units.
China Telecom’s vice general manager Yang Xiaowei said that the great network guarantee, favorable and heartwarmed packages and contract plans allowed China Telecom to give users different products and experiences of Apple.
“The cheapest iPhone 4S package ever”
It is known that China Telecom launched a series of packages, favorable prices, applications and services featured with uniqueness or better quality for the coming-out of iPhone 4S.
Presently, two major telecom operators in China – China Telecom and China Unicom – adopted two kinds of packages and contracts. The first one requires the users to buy the contract package in a lump sum. The packages include various subsidies for mobile phones and communication fees based on the types of packages and if the package value hit a certain level, the iPhone 4S could be given to the user without any additional charges. The second package is featured with purchasing mobile phones at the whole price before choosing suitable packages, which also includes different kinds of subsidies for communication fees.
The packages of iPhone 4S launched by China Telecom are all 100 yuan cheaper than China Unicom’s packages. For example, the package of China Unicom that allows users to get a free 16G iPhone 4S by preserving communication fees is priced at 5880 yuan, while China Telecom’s similar package only costs 5780 yuan. In addition, the minimum communication cost per month required by China Telecom is 289 yuan for users to sign a 36-month contract with a free 16G or 32G iPhone 4S while the minimum communication cost for a 24-month contract with a free 16G iPhone 4S or a free 32G iPhone 4S is respectively 389 yuan or 489 yuan (China Unicom’s package is priced at 589 yuan).
For consumers choosing the package of buying device with free communication fees, the lowest price for corresponding package of China Telecom’s iPhone 4S is only 49 yuan per month, cheaper than the 66-yuan package of China Unicom. This is also called the “lowest package price of iPhone 4S”.
In addition, China Telecom’s iPhone 4S packages include more choices and more favorable conditions: the Joy 3G Surfing Package has 11 prices, ranging from 49 yuan to 889 yuan so that it can satisfy different kinds of consumers. The contract of “getting free device by preserving communication fees” includes the 12-month, 24-month and 36-month term, multiplying the choices and the joys.
It is said that consumers could buy China Telecom’s iPhone 4S online anytime from China Telecom’s online business hall and the B2C website 360Buy. In addition, 2850 stores in China, including the business halls of China Telecom, Gome and Suning in different places also have China Telecom’s iPhone 4S on sale. In addition, consumers can buy iPhone 4S by installments with credit cards.
Differentiated traffic as the trump card
Since China Telecom’s iPhone 4S is two months later than China Unicom’s, what measures China Telecom will take to win the upper hand is the concern of the masses. Compared with China Unicom’s contract of iPhone 4S, it is not hard to find that China Telecom’s packages underline the network traffic – the network traffic of China Telecom’s package is larger than China Unicom’s at the same level.
Take the 289-yuan package for example: it includes 1.5G of traffic of 3G network as well as 990-minute domestic calls. In comparison, China Unicom’s 289-yuan package only contains 1.1G of 3G network traffic and 900- min domestic calls. Another featured service of China Telecom is the “automatic upgrade of package if given traffic is outnumbered”, which means that the system could automatically upgrade the package of a user to a higher level if he/she used more traffic than the given amount of his/her package, so he/she could avoid excessive and unnecessary cost.
According to the worker of China Telecom Shanghai, the “WiFi duration”included in China Telecom’s package is the most appealing part for Apple fans. The 49-yuan package, for example, includes 30-hour WiFi services in China. That means the users of China Telecom’s iPhone 4S could get connected to Internet via WiFi anytime and any- where in China if the “CHINANET”hotspot is available, so they do not need to worry about the bills of watching videos which could consume a lot of network traffic. The WiFi durations vary to the prices of packages with maximal duration reaching 120 hours per month.
Apart from WiFi, the users from the same family could share one package. Different from China Unicom’s package exclusive for device owners, China Telecom’s contract allows the iPhone 4S users of 129-yuan or more expensive packages to apply for a subsidiary card without any additional charges. Users do not need to pay monthly contract fees for this subsidiary card and can share the call dura- tion and network traffic of the main card.
Moreover, China Telecom provides ubiquitous customer services in both urban and rural areas. The professional marketing team for enterprises and governments provide one-on-one services. 24-hour service is available via 10000 service hotline, mobile Internet business hall, online business hall, QQ and Microblog. In addition, 200 iPhone experts accredited by Apple provide heart-warmed 7x24 services which are available only by pressing “10000+3”. VIP costumers could also enjoy the exclusive services from client managers about the applications, business contract, package financing and customer care.
Obvious advantages of E-Surfing Network
Experts said that the most important factor for iPhone users is not the price, but the network quality. Therefore, the network traffic and quality are the key factors to determine which of China Telecom and China Unicom could win the competition.
Liu Ping, general manager of China Telecom’s market department, said that China Telecom had the biggest and most stable 3G mobile network with the largest number of users in the world. By now China Telecom’s E-Surfing 3G network has already covered 90% of towns and cities in China. In addition, China Telecom is enjoying the fastest development pace in mobile business in the world for the number of its mobile phone users tripled in three years to 130 million. It has also recruited 37.19 million 3G users, making it the largest 3G operator in China. Its E-Surfing 3G network is widely praised for its good quality, stable access and high speed in high-speed railways and intenselypopulated urban areas. By the end of 2011, China Telecom had already established 700 thousand WiFi hotspots in China.
“Broad, stable and reliable 3G network is the first trump card of China Telecom,” said Fu Liang, a telecom expert. It is known 3G network of China Telecom is available in every corner of Shanghai and the number of WiFi hotspots in this city has exceeded 7300. Most of WiFi hotspots could provide the 54Mb access speed. Moreover, China Telecom Shanghai promised to increase the number of WiFi hotspots to 20 thousand in the next three years.
The CDMA network is the most environment-friendly mobile communication network with the smallest radiation. In addition, China Telecom’s iPhone 4S is also compatible for WCDMA, thus it is called“global roaming device” like the iPhone 4S sold in North America. With CDMA 2000/WCDMA/GSM, it is no wonder China Telecom’s iPhone 4S is thought highly by the consumers.
