Environmental groups said the European Commission’s proposal to relax the rules on preventing western corn rootworm from spreading in the European Union could lead to “massive” increases in the use of pesticides. In a joint letter, the group said any deregulation of controls must be made up by implementing a mandatory rotation as part of the forthcoming reform of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
