阿勒泰地区地处新疆北端阿尔泰山南麓,西部、北部与哈萨克斯坦、俄罗斯交界,东北与蒙古国接壤,边境线长1197公里。地区下辖阿勒泰市、布尔津县、哈巴河县、吉木乃县、福海县、富蕴县、青河县等六县一市。境内有兵团农十师及其所属的8个团场。全地区总面积11.8万平方公里,居住着哈、汉、维、回等36个民族,2010年末总人口66.22万人,其中哈萨克族人口34.16万人,占总人口52%,汉族人口27.42
