Relationship between Placental Cadmium and Neonatal Weight in Women Living Near Lead Smelting Plant It has been reported that exposure to cigarette smoke causes the accumulation of cadmium (Cd) in the placenta. This suggests that cigarette smoke on the baby’s weight have a negative impact. The authors then tested the hypothesis by examining and comparing non-smoking and non-smoking pregnant and non-contact women exposed to lead smelters producing low Cd concentrations. The results showed that compared with 55 non-contact women, the average placenta exposure of women (106) was higher (P <0.0007). However, by the least squares multiple regression analysis (control of potential mixed variables), the relationship between placental cadmium and newborn body weight was revealed at the end. Conclusions that: smoking on newborns weight
