硫黄岛是小笠原群岛中硫黄列岛的主岛,位于东京以南660海里的洋面上,虽为一个荒无人烟的小岛,第二次世界大战后期却为日美双方倍加注目,是连接美军马里亚纳海、空基地和东京的唯一战略中继站。该岛一旦被美军占领,东京及日本东部的重要地区就将暴露在美战斗机和轰炸机的联合攻击之下。它与冲绳岛共同构成日本本土南部海域上的屏障,战略地位极为重要。
Sulfur Island is the main island of sulfur yellow islands in the Ogasawara Islands. It lies 660 nautical miles south of Tokyo. Although it is a deserted island, the latter part of Japan and the United States doubled their attention in the latter part of the Second World War. Naumi, Airspace and Tokyo’s only strategic relay station. Once the island is occupied by the U.S. forces, important areas in Tokyo and eastern Japan will be exposed to a joint attack by U.S. fighters and bombers. Together with Okinawa, it forms a barrier on the Japanese southern coast and is strategically important.
