On November 18, 2013, the opening ceremony of the bronze statue of Zheng Zhenduo was held in Fu Shou Garden, Shanghai. Mr. Zheng Zhenduo (1898-1958) was the pioneer and founder of the cause of cultural relics in new China. In 1949, he was the first director of the Cultural Relics Bureau of the Ministry of Culture of the Central People’s Government and the director of the Institute of Archeology and director of the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1954, he served as deputy minister of the Ministry of Culture and supervised the work of the Heritage Museum, making great contributions to the establishment and development of the cause of new China’s relics. Vice Minister of Ministry of Culture and State Administration of Cultural Heritage Rex Xiao Jie attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
