This article explores the potential of two types of narrative education processes such as autobiographical writing and interactive storytelling in foreign language education. In Autonomous Learning Modules - ALMS, students write a variety of autobiographical texts as part of their language files. These texts are discussed at face-to-face tutorials. Finnish student learners’ identities are affected by the competitiveness of English in Finland: mastery of English is a must, while failure to master English means failure. This is especially true for learners who identify themselves as “different ”, and their previous language learning experiences and classroom environments aroused their anxiety. At ALMS, counselors are encouraged to share past learning experiences as storytelling and use it as a basis for developing their own personal learning plans. Telling a story can also create a safe, self-reflective space for students to help them discover and recognize their “harmed” learner identity. This article is about storytelling practice and research.
