根据卫生部、燃化部的要求,全国医用抗菌素工作协作组于1972年8月25日至9月2日在北京召开全国抗菌素研究工作座谈会,讨论防治慢性气管炎和肺心病等呼吸道感染的抗菌素的研究、试制和降低毒副作用问题。参加座谈会的代表来自北京、上海、成都、太原、沈阳、福州、南京等地,中央和地方有关的抗菌素研究所(室)、药厂和医院等21个单位共32人。会上学习了国务院首长对全国防治慢性气管炎工作会议的讲话和会议纪要,以及余秋里同志关于质量问题的讲话。各单位交流了近1～2年来国内外抗菌素新品种、筛选途径和方法、临床应用、解决毒性和副作用等科研试验的进展情况,
