Objective To understand the smoking status of migrant women working in cities in rural areas in Guangzhou and to explore the factors influencing their attempt to smoke. Methods Based on current research methods, 216 rural migrant workers working in cities were surveyed electronically using personal handheld interview support system from August to October in 2010. The 2 test was used to compare the smoking attitude and environment of smoking and non-smoking groups, the health risk of smoking and second-hand smoking, the attitude towards smoking ban and the discrimination against smoking. Multivariate non-conditional logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of smoking cessation. Results The current smoking rate of working-class young women entering rural areas in Guangzhou was 1.4% and the smoking prevalence rate was 17.6%. Smoking awareness and health awareness of second-hand smoke were all> 80%, and the rate of approval for each smoking ban was> 89%. Smokers were more discriminated than non-smokers, and spouses / boyfriends had a higher percentage of smokers in their face, believing that “Ms. cigarettes” were more stylish and tasted better than regular cigarettes, with significant differences (all P < 0.05). (OR = 2.443, 95% CI: 1.052-5.673), and considered that “Ms. Cigarette” was more fashionable than the average cigarette (OR = 3.175,95% CI: 1.470-6.860) as a risk factor for smoking cessation. Conclusions The prevalence of smoking among rural working women in rural areas in Guangzhou is relatively low at present. Smoking and discrimination are the two major reasons for the acceptance of “Ms. Cigarettes”.
