苏联地域辽阔,植物资源十分丰富。据资料介绍,苏联科学院下设已有115个国家级植物园。其中6所主要的植物园是莫斯科中央植物园、列宁格勒植物园、乌兰克共和国基辅植物园、白俄罗斯共和国明斯克植物园、基辅大学植物园和喀山大学植物园。苏联的植物园基本上都隶属于苏联科学院及下属各分院。此外一些重点综合大学也设有自己的植物园,如著名的莫斯科大学、基辅大学、喀山大学等,都有自己教学和科研用的规模很大的植物园。
