Water Levels and Climate Change In the midst of the debate about the characteristics of climate change, the vast majority of experts consider the coastal water level, which is one of the rare climate parameters, to rise indeed. It is now widely accepted by the scientific community that the rise of the surface temperature of the Earth due to the increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere leads to the rise of water level through the thermal expansion of seawater (Warrick and Oerlemans, 1990). Data from well-developed integrated ocean circulation models have been used to obtain spatial distribution of global water level rise.
