“城市重大活动”一般是指对城市的经济、社会和文化生活带来重要影响的公共事件。在更多的语境下,这类重大活动一般是由政府组织、自上而下推动的,而且希望通过重大活动给城市发展带来积极影响和推进。例如,北京2008年奥运会、上海2010年世博会、西安201 1年世界园艺博览会等。国内如此,国际上也不例外。例如伦敦举办的201 2年夏季奥林匹克运动会,给伦敦城市东部地区的重建复兴带来了重大契机。总体来看,城市重大活动本身的国际化特征以及给城市所带来的巨大经济社会效益,甚至对一个国家发展和民族文化的积极营销所带来的
“Major city activities” generally refer to public events that have a significant impact on the economic, social and cultural life of the city.
