在广安县花桥、井溪等許多地方,以及渠县境內部发現蒙脫石粘土岩。蒙脫石粘土岩呈浅蜡黃色,有时为紫红色,或夹有紫紅色、灰绿,黑色的条紋,矿石貭較純,絕大部分为蒙脫石組成,只含少量的石英,矿石有蜡脂光澤,滑腻,遇水膨胀,并变成胶冻状。过去都把它錯誤的叫做高岭土,而当地农民叫之为“白泥巴”。蒙脫石粘土岩产于上侏罗系枣山鋪組中。另外在三台县与盐宁县交界处,也有高岭土矿床,岩性与上述相似,很可能也是蒙脫石粘土岩,但产出层位要比广安所产的高些。蒙脫石粘土岩是深钻油井最好的泥浆,过滤油类的吸附剂。蒙脱石粘土岩是在川中油区发現的,对川中油区是有一定的經济意义的。
