也许是对自己的语言功底太过信赖,抑或是对自己的“知识库”容量自信满满,我在写作时是从来都不准备字典的。但是当我在翻译这篇关于格雷格·奥登的文章时,我却被“refreshing”这个单词搞糊涂了。它是仅仅用于食品加工行业呢,还是有一个全球通用的解释?于是我找来一摞字典,还好我顺利地查到了我想要的释义。字典里是这么写的:“re-fresh-ing:形容词。1.使精神振作:2.为一些新奇事物而感到兴奋。”这两种解释都是我想要的,特别是第二个。没有什么比这个词语更能恰当地形容当年的奥登了。现在,我的故事开始了。
Perhaps it is too dependent on one’s own language skills, or is confident about one’s own “knowledge base” capacity, I never prepared a dictionary at the time of writing. But when I was translating this article about Greg Oden, I was confused by the word “refreshing.” Is it just for the food processing industry or does it have a global explanation? So I got a bunch of dictionaries, but fortunately I found out exactly what I wanted. The dictionary is written like this: “re-fresh-ing: adjective .1. Refreshing: 2. excited about some novelty.” Both explanations are what I want, especially the second A There is nothing more apt than the term to describe the year’s Auden. Now, my story begins.
