Joseph Heller’s “Twenty-Two Military Regulations” mark the arrival of the post-modern American novel era. Post-modernism has profoundly influenced the creation of contemporary writers. Uncertainty and nonlinear post-modern narrative techniques have also profoundly affected the The creation of these writers. Both Sean Rosenbaum and Joseph Heller are Jewish writers, and “secondhand smoke” is about the same time as the “last scene,” so this article tries to analyze the two authors by comparing “secondhand smoke” and “the last scene.” The similarities and differences between the postmodernist narrative techniques applied to the structure of the two novels provide a way of thinking for the two ministerial novels and the two writers.
