为了弘扬郑和的航海精神，十多名富有经验的航海家，于2005年7月11日——郑和 下西洋600周年纪念日，也是我国第一个航海日，驾驭一艘长16米的帆船，从郑和的起锚 地苏州太仓出发，经上海、厦门、香港、东南亚，穿越马六甲海峡，横渡南太平洋和大西 洋，最终到达美洲。整个航行将历时两年，总航程约29700至34800海里之间。
