Corporate Governance The Problem of Japanese Corporate Governance Behind the Olympus Scandal John Gapper, Olympus’s Deceit was dishonourable.Financial Times, Nov 24, 2011 As the president and British Michael Woodford resign, the Olympus scandal is clear : The company’s board of directors has spent the past 20 years trying to conceal the investment losses that have taken place since the 1990s, all of which were written off in the name of advisory fees for acquisitions. Olympus shares have fallen 75% since mid-October, with a market capitalization of just over 3.5 billion U.S. dollars and a downgrade of corporate bonds.
