Lung cancer is one of the major causes of death in the world today, and new treatments are urgently needed. In recent years, microRNAs have become one of the key factors regulating gene expression. Numerous studies have shown that microRNAs are involved in almost every stage of the carcinogenesis of lung cancer including tumor development, apoptosis, invasion and metastasis of cancer cells, and resistance to anticancer drugs. Forced expression or suppression of MicroRNAs can modulate the biological changes during carcinogenesis, suggesting that microRNAs have therapeutic potential in lung cancer. This editorial summarizes the latest reports on some important microRNAs that regulate the carcinogenesis of lung cancer and elucidates its mechanism of action, introduces some methods for regulating the effects of microRNAs, and explores the prospect of microRNAs as targets for the treatment of lung cancer.
