The incidence of donor diseases transmitted to the recipient by corneal transplantation is very low. However, due to the wide variety of donors, some diseases may be contagious, and the difficulties of diagnosis deserve careful attention. Infections, tumors, and keratopathy can be transmitted by corneal transplantation. Serious viral infections (but only rabies virus) have been reported in the literature, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and Hepatitis B are transmitted by corneal transplantation. Bacterial and fungal infections on the risk of corneal transplant more clearly, and occasionally can cause the death of the recipient. Although there are no reports of corneal diseases and corneal malnutrition that have been reported by the corneal transplantations, the possibility exists, especially when young corneal dystrophic donors such as conical cornea and Fuchs malnutrition are used, Corneal dystrophy may occur. Fortunately, the screening technology in the United States has been very successful in discovering that it is possible to hide potentially infected donors.
