爬上一段楼梯,经过成人阅览室外的花瓶和钟,再经过几面奶油色的墙、橡木装饰板条、橡木书架和切利尼的《帕尔修斯》雕像,就到了一百二十三街图书分馆的儿童阅览室。小小年纪的萨米·法伯从口袋里掏出一张皱巴巴的借书证走了进去。他是个胖墩墩的伶俐男孩,十一或十二岁。他在借阅台上一边弄平他的借书证,一边东张西望,等着图书馆管理员。阅览室里仅有几个孩子。两个穿着花色套衫的男孩站在一只书架旁嘀嘀咕咕。在他们头顶的墙上是幅希腊顽童吹喇叭的壁饰。图书管理员来了。
Climb up a flight of stairs, pass an adult reading outdoor vases and bells, pass several cream-colored walls, oak decorative planks, oak shelves and the statue of “Parysius” of Chillini, to 123 Children’s Reading Room in Street Book Branch. The youngest Sami Faber pulled out a crumpled library card from his pocket. He is a fat, pierced smart boy, eleven or twelve years old. He flattered his library card on the borrowing table while looking around and waiting for the librarian. There are only a few children in the reading room. Two boys dressed in pullovers next to a bookshelf mutter. On the wall above them was the Greek trumpet trumpet trumpet. Librarian is coming.
