塔城地区各县(市)、地直各单位在1984~1986年间先后成立修志机构,正式启动首轮修志工作,直至志书出版,大致经历30年。在首轮修志工作中编写出大量反映地、县市历史文化和发展现状的地情丛书。通过坚持不懈的努力,使地方志工作在开拓创新中焕发出勃勃生机和活力,实现了地方志事业的可持续发展,更好地为地区跨越式发展和长治久安服务,为维护民族团结和社会稳定服务,为构建社会主义和谐社会服务。
