From August 1994 to July 1995, qualitative and quantitative studies on the factors influencing men’s participation in family planning in the armed forces were carried out in 35 representative units throughout the country in 9 districts and 2 provinces in 9 provinces of China. Through personal questionnaires, group interviews and individual interviews, we obtain extensive information on the concepts and behaviors of married cadres and non-commissioned officers in family planning. Research and analyze the deep-seated reasons that affect the participation of military men in family planning. The results of the study suggest that because of the full awareness of men in the armed forces due to policies and propaganda, the utilization rate of male birth control is still lower than that of women. The factors influencing men’s participation in family planning in the military involve many aspects such as the awareness and attitude of decision-makers and their geographical, cultural and social psychology. According to the findings of the study, targeted suggestions are put forward on policy makers, technology and service providers and family planning and scientific research.
