钱锡钧是黑龙江省巴彦县人,1922年生。不到10岁时随家迁居到沈阳,从懂事起就受日寇、伪满的奴役和压迫。1948年11月11日沈阳解放,11月17日他就参加了解放军,分配到天津汽校学习。1949年4月毕业分配到汽车四团五连,随部队南下,参加执行支援解放华中南和海南岛的运输任务。朝鲜战争爆发后,汽车四团于1950年10月中旬入朝,钱锡钧被提升为三连四排十班长。
