The fourth plenary session of the National Natural Science Foundation of China was held in Beijing from December 26 to December 28, 1988. The meeting reviewed the work report of Director Tang Aoqing on “conscientiously summing up the work and further consolidating and developing the science fund system.” Reviewed the financial, international cooperation, major projects, transformation of achievements and reports on the work of various scientific departments of the Science Foundation. Since its founding in 1986, the National Natural Science Foundation of China has 9,749 research projects funded by the Science Fund, with a total funding of 366.8 million yuan, accounting for 27.32% of the total number of applications and 15.13% of the total amount claimed. There were 85,361 scientific workers who received funding. Among them, 23,158 senior scientists and technicians, 19,939 postdoctoral fellows, doctors and postgraduates.
