The United States still maintains a high standard in improving the physical and mechanical properties of ductile iron. The following is the United States foundry ductile iron production survey results. From 1966 to 1974, it was a period of rapid growth in the production of ductile iron in the United States, more than tripling from 785,000 tons to over 3.2 million tons. Later, as the United States casting the general trend of decline. Table 1 depicts this peak increase and the ductile iron production between 1975 and 1982. In recent years, although the ductile iron production in the United States has been declining, interest in ductile iron is still high. Ductile iron has the potential to open up new markets for casting producers: replacing cast steel and some forgings. As a result, ductile iron producers continue to improve the physical and mechanical properties of their castings. The key to improving performance is the ductile iron production operation of the foundry (workshop). In order to clarify what kind of production process and its effect the foundry used, “Modern Casting” organized a survey of US ductile iron producers. The following is a summary of the findings.
