Today, although the cost of magnetic storage products has drastically declined, CD-ROMs are still the single-most-accessible random access storage media. At the beginning of recordable CDs, many storage vendors quickly introduced their own optical storage strategies and product lines and tried to take a slice of the tape drive / library and disk array in the enterprise storage market. As a result, in spite of the traditional 5.25-inch MO magneto-optical disk occupying a place in some archiving applications today and the application of CD tower in library retrieval, a large number of optical storage products only serve for personal backup and data sharing and are difficult to access The door to business applications. The reason is simple: optical storage costs less than the unit of tape, but the transfer speed is not as fast as the hard drive.
