Gorlin and Knier (1982) reviewed all cases of Melnick-Needles syndrome (osteodystrophy) reported before 1981, suggesting only female cases. According to individual cases limited to female onset and mother-daughter transmission, Gorlin and Knier proposed that the inheritance of the syndrome was inherited by X-linked dominance and that men would not survive.
