忻定盆地位于山西省中北部,是晋陕高原一系列断陷盆地之一.它北以恒山与大同盆地相隔,南以石岭关隆起与太原盆地毗邻.忻定盆地呈狭窄的条带状,北东方向展布.群山环抱盆地,主要有系舟山、五台山、云中山、恒山等,海拔多在2000米以上,其中五台山最高峰海拔3058米.历史上盆地曾发生过多次中强地震,其新构造运动的强度早已引起人们的关注,并作过许多工作.本文仅就1979年在盆地考察所获若干新构造运动迹象,与有关同志商讨.一、盆地内新构造运动忻定盆地和山西断陷带的其它盆地一样,是在一个统一的区域应力场作用下,它的形成和发展与整个断陷带盆地有一致性.新构造运动主要表现在控制盆地边缘断裂的新活动,山地一侧相对上升,盆地一侧相对下降.并伴随有山前洪积扇的发育,河流阶地的形成,河流改道等现象.

The Neotectonic movement is mainly manifested in the new activity of controlling the edge rupture of the basin , The relative rise in one side of the mountain and the relative decrease in the side of the basin accompanied by the development of the alluvial fan in the front of the mountain, the formation of terraces of rivers and the diversion of rivers.
